Cold-weather moves are totally doable—just plan for surfaces, staffing, and contingencies.
Prep the Origin
- Lay down ram board or plastic runners the night before to protect floors from slush.
- Keep walkways salted and reapply every two hours; movers can provide melt if requested.
- Stage boxes in the warmest room so cartons stay dry before loading.
Prep the Destination
- Confirm parking or alley access is plowed before the truck arrives.
- Ask your mover to bring boot covers and heater breaks for the crew.
- If temps drop below 25°F, request climate-protected transport for electronics, wine, or musical instruments.
Bonus Tip
Schedule afternoon deliveries so ice has a chance to thaw and freight elevators are less crowded. Movers on GetMove monitor weather in real time and will proactively reschedule if conditions get unsafe.*** End Patch
